The first step to serving a pancake breakfast to a large group
of people is to take off your jacket and roll up your sleeves!

Board of Directors Treasurer Steve Moll made certain there was plenty of
pancake batter on hand and he, Burke Kincaid and Martin Murphy got right to the cooking.

The Legislative Breakfast was held at the Suffolk Cooperative Library System in Bellport
and Director Kevin Verbesey faced an added pancake flipping challenge. At the suggestion of
Amityville Library Director and LS board secretary Nora Schual, several Suffolk County libraries joined in placing a challenge and making donor pledges to Literacy Suffolk,
based on Kevin’s good spirit and skill at the griddle.

Not to be out done, Brian Foley also showed off his ability to man a pancake station!

Always ready to make folks comfortable, Don Chiappetta provided guests added attention and fine service.

Rev. Arnulfo Jara Galvez spoke to guests about the need for and importance of adult literacy services. He is appreciative of the tutoring he has received through the
Literacy Suffolk program and for the broad network of literacy volunteers
who tutor daily throughout Suffolk County in reading, writing, and English as a second language.

Among those who attended or were represented at the Legislative Breakfast were Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning, NYS Assemblyman Andrew Raia, Suffolk County Director of Womens Services Deanna Marshall, and Chief Deputy Clerk of Suffolk County Legislator Renee Ortiz, as well as public library directors and trustees, educators from all sectors, and community based organizations.

The Men Who Serve – and staff –
took their commitment seriously of course, so nobody left until the kitchen was cleaned!

2009 Legislative Breakfast a pleasurable success.
